The 'recipe' is this:
Mix 7 cups of plain flour with 1 cup of vegetable/baby oil.
That's it.
I thought seven (seven!) cups sounded ridiculous, so I halved the quantities. I wish I hadn't. We certainly had enough to play with, but more would've been better. Seven cups next time!
It seemed too dry, so I added another 1/4 cup of oil, and that's how we arrived at the crumbly texture. I also added some green sequins and glitter to the mix to pretty it up a bit.
Eden enjoyed mixing it up...
Until her hands got dirty...
For some reason, she's happy to get grubby outside - but not indoors! So outside it was...
Nan got her hands dirty too. Eden was very busy baking us cakes and making cups of tea...
She was so happily absorbed in her play, that I was able to take tonnes of pics without her wanting to see them every other second ("I want to look, Mummy?")!
Fellow Aussies, this is a great idea for summer outdoor play, especially if you can't hit the beach as often as your kids would like. If you're in the middle of winter, why not create a Beach Day indoors for your tot, and pretend that you've gone on a trip to the beach? Make some sand, turn up the heater, get into your togs (Aussie slang for bathers/swimwear) and have some fun. Maybe even do it in your bathroom (for easy clean up) and use your bathtub as a pool!
Thanks for reading! ~ L.
What FUN!! Wish I was in Australia to be playing outdoors like you are =-) Thanks for linking up at TGIF! Have a great week,
ReplyDeleteBeth =)
Thanks Beth, there's nothing like being able to do messy play OUTSIDE, is there? See you at the next TGIF! ~ L.
DeleteWe made this last week and it was sooo much fun. it would have been even funner outside. I think I'd just have let them have at it. Unfortunately the flour does get all over if you don't be careful.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think next time we'll mix it up outside too, save my kitchen floors! Thanks for stopping by! ~ L.
DeleteLove it! We have not made any moon sand yet...but hope to some day! I love that you just took her outside to solve the dirty issue ;) Great call mama! Thanks for linking up at Thrifty Thursday!
ReplyDeleteThanks Katie! I'll see you again on Thursday. :D ~ L.
DeleteAlways fun when they play with the things we didn't think worked correctly. Thanks for sharing it at Sharing Saturday!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carrie! ~ L.
