Personalised Valentine for Daddy

My husband's birthday is on Valentine's Day, so we tend to make a big deal of it around here (for Australians, anyway). More accurately, we tend to make a big deal of him on Valentine's Day. This year, we're preparing a gift for him every hour (some bought, some made). One of the gifts we made for him is a poster of two of his favorite people: our girls! Check this out...

I had seen a few images on Pinterest of women holding up signs with messages of love to their significant others, and thought I could do a version with our kids! I laid down a nice blanket, got the girls into white/pink outfits and got to work.

Valentines Day Playdough Treats

Ah, playdough, is there anything you can't do? As Valentine's Day is just around the corner, I thought that a batch of Valentine's Day playdough was in order (see here for Nurture Store's recipe). To the basic dough mix, we added some rosewater and some silver glitter for that extra special something, and pretty much as soon as the playdough was cool enough to handle, Eden was into it!

Happy Australia Day!

To my fellow Aussies:
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!
[Oi! Oi! Oi!]
... Just one of the gems I taught my daughter today. Others include "how's the serenity" (although she says "how senity" - just remember, she's three!), "bonza" and "maaaaaaate"! Couldn't help myself.

To my non-Aussie friends:

Today was Australia day, a national holiday celebrating what it means to be Australian and how fortunate we are to live in our amazing country. Now that we're on the same page, here's how we incorporated a bit of Aus into Eden's day (Ava's a tad small to appreciate Australia Day, she's 9 months old)....

Green Day Giveaway!

Hi all, we've got our very first colour-theme day coming up this Thursday 3rd November 10:00am at Lysterfield Lake, Narre Warren North, please see here for further information.
There will be a 'door prize', but no door, for those attending, which will be a customised children's tee and an age-appropriate kids book, valued at $20.00. The prize will be sent to the winner shortly after (since it's customised, I obviously won't have it with me).
Please remember, it is BYO everything: food, drink, and activities for kids which they may not need anyway since they'll probably just be chasing each other around the place.
Come along, make some friends, green it up and maybe win a prize! We'll see you there!

Green Day Date has Moved!

Hi all, if you were interested in attending our Green Day themed morning out at Lysterfield Lake, we'll now be holding it on Thursday the 3rd November, same time, same place (see here if you want the details), due to expected rain. Hopefully the weather will be better next week! :D

Reminder: Green Day!

Tomorrow, Tuesday the 25th of October, we will be having a Green Day at Lysterfield Lake in Narre Warren North. See here for full details.
Bring your kids along and check out other parent's ideas. We'll be kitting up in some green gear, reading green books, and I'm preparing some activities for Eden and Ava which involve green things! Should be a great day, come along if you can!

Colour Theme Day!

I’m excited to announce the date for our first Colour Theme Day!

Please join us on Tuesday, October 25th at Lysterfield Lake Park in Narre Warren North at 10:00am for a GREEN DAY!

Come dressed in green with your green-dressed kids. Bring green food and green drinks. We’ll have a reading or two from some ‘Green’ books, and a lot of fun!

Anyone is welcome, BYO everything.  Meet at the picnic area near the ‘Beach’ carpark – when you enter Lysterfield’s grounds, turn left into the parking area then drive straight down, down, down, until you get to the ‘Beach’ carpark.

Please let me know if you’re coming, (because if it’s just me, then I’ll stay home and have another ‘green day’). Tell your friends about it, and then bring them!

Colour Day

Last week, I declared that we were having a 'Green Day', and we had so much fun that every morning since, Eden asks me "today is a green day, Mummy?"
This one is great for toddlers, and I reckon it's appropriate for 12 months and over. A one year old may not thoroughly grasp the game, but I think you'll be surprised at how much they understand and file away in those rapidly developing minds of theirs. In any event, it's a lotta fun!
We all wore green clothes and some of Mummy's green jewellery. We had green porridge for brekky (normal porridge with a couple of drops of food colouring in it), ate from green bowls and drank from green cups. Lunch was green apples, yoghurt (another drop of food colouring) and cheese - I know it's not green, two points off for me, and dinner was spinach fettacine with basil pesto (a fave in our house). We read 'Green Eggs and Ham' by Dr. Seuss and 'Where Is the Green Sheep' by Mem Fox. We went for a walk and talked about all the green things we could see. Eden used a green bath crayon in her bath time.We baked gingerbread men wearing green-ish aprons - I don't have any properly green ones. Eden had such a wonderful time, and so did I.
If I had planned it out better, we could have played with playdough in yellow and blue, and mixed it together to make green. Or done the same with paint. I could have made green eggs and ham to eat whilst we read the book. We might have done some pasting with green paper/cellophane/crepe paper.
In future, I'm planning to do another colour day, and - just putting it out there - I thought I'd make it a bit of an event: anyone who's interested can come, we could all meet up at a park for a picnic lunch with our kids, and everyone in the same colour! Lemme know your thoughts, anyone can add a comment. Also, feel free to follow this blog - I love followers! ~ L.
